WONG SHUN LEUNG
Sifu Wong Shun Leung is considered by many to have been one of the greatest Ving Tsun fighters. Throughout the 50′s and 60′s he tested and refined his Ving Tsun by way of numerous encounters and challenge matches on the rooftops of Hong Kong, and gained the reputation of “Gong Sau Wong”, or “King of Talking Hands”.
To support his testing and refining, Wong would discuss his experiences at length with his teacher, the legendary Grandmaster Yip Man. It was this and his practical way of thinking which allowed him to leave behind a legacy – the Wong Shun Leung Method of Ving Tsun.
Wong devoted himself to the teachings of Ip Man, while always maintaining a focus on training for reality. He is credited with being Bruce Lee’s main Ving Tsun teacher (even though Bruce was learning at Ip Man’s school). On January 28, 1997, at the age of 62, Wong Shun Leung sadly passed away after unexpectedly falling into a coma 16 days earlier.
In honour of Wong Shun Leung’s teachings, the WSLVT system is taught in an open, honest and unselfish manner, just as Wong Shun Leung taught his students. Ving Tsun Combat Science Auckland aims to help students develop realistic self-protection skills, and at the simplest level, be simple, direct, and efficient.
